Water softener repair in San Diego. Hard water came back. We will figure out why.
When a softener stops working, hard water returns fast. Scale starts reappearing on fixtures, the water feels different, and the appliances that depend on soft water start taking the hit again. Most softener problems fall into a handful of categories: failed control valve, depleted resin, salt bridge in the brine tank, or a system that was undersized from the start. We diagnose first, repair when it makes sense, and replace when it does not.

What do homeowners ask about Softener Repair?
How do I know if my softener has stopped working?
The clearest sign is hard water returning: white scale on faucets or in the showerhead, soaps not lathering, water that feels slippery-gone. You can also test it. We bring a hardness test kit on every service call and test the water before and after the system. That removes all guesswork.
What is a salt bridge and how does it cause problems?
A salt bridge is a hard crust of salt that forms across the top of the brine tank, creating an air gap below it. Salt looks full from the outside but the resin is not regenerating because salt is not dissolving into the water. Breaking the bridge and cleaning the tank solves it. It is a common issue in older softeners or in high-humidity garages.
When does repair make more sense than replacement?
If the tank is in good shape and the failure is a control valve, injector, or resin replacement, repair is usually worth it. If the system is more than 15 years old, has a fiberglass or plastic tank that is showing wear, or was undersized from the original install, replacement with a properly sized and built system is the better investment.
Can you service any brand of softener?
We can diagnose and service most major softener brands. Control valve parts for common brands are generally available. If parts are discontinued or the system is no longer serviceable, we will tell you that clearly and quote a replacement.

They did a free in-home water test before quoting anything, and the numbers were pretty eye-opening for tap water I'd been drinking for years. The whole-house system they installed uses a stainless steel tank, which the other company I called didn't even offer. Everything has been running clean for four months now.
I was hauling 40-pound salt bags every few weeks and it was getting old fast. They explained the salt-free system and how it handles the hardness without adding sodium to the water. No bags, no brine tank, no maintenance headaches, and the scale on my fixtures has not come back.
My daughter has eczema and her skin would flare up badly every winter. A friend mentioned soft water might help, so we had Filter Pros come out. They tested our water first and walked us through exactly what we were dealing with. A few weeks after the softener was in, her flare-ups got noticeably better and her dermatologist was glad to hear we made the change.
