Microplastics and heavy metals removal in San Diego. Filter what testing finds.
Microplastics have been detected in tap water sources globally, including treated municipal water. Heavy metals like lead and arsenic can enter drinking water from aging distribution lines, plumbing fixtures, or well water. These are not hypothetical concerns, they are documented in independent and government research, including by the EPA's Safe Drinking Water program. The practical solution at the point of use is a certified multi-stage filtration system that addresses both categories. Reverse osmosis is the most effective approach for dissolved heavy metals. Certified block carbon and specialty media handle microplastics and certain other particulate contaminants. We use stainless steel tanks and certified media so the treatment equipment is not itself a source of contamination.

What do homeowners ask about Microplastics & Metals?
Are microplastics in San Diego tap water?
Microplastics have been found in municipal water supplies in numerous studies. San Diego has not published specific tap water microplastic data, but the research suggests treated municipal water broadly contains detectable microplastic particles. The health implications are still being studied. What we can do is install certified filtration that reduces particulate contamination at the tap.
How do I know if my water has elevated heavy metals?
A water test is the starting point. Our free in-home test covers common parameters. For a full metals panel including lead, arsenic, chromium, and others, we recommend sending a sample to an independent certified lab. We can advise on which tests make sense based on your plumbing age, local distribution system, and any utility advisories.
Does reverse osmosis remove lead?
Yes. Reverse osmosis with a certified membrane is effective at removing lead and other dissolved heavy metals. NSF/ANSI 58 certification includes testing for lead reduction. If lead is a concern, RO at the drinking water tap is a well-documented solution.
Will a standard pitcher filter remove microplastics and heavy metals?
It depends on the certification. Some pitcher filters with NSF/ANSI 53 certification have been independently tested and verified for specific contaminants including some heavy metals. Most standard pitcher filters are not tested or certified for microplastics or lead. An under-sink certified system provides more consistent performance and higher capacity.

They did a free in-home water test before quoting anything, and the numbers were pretty eye-opening for tap water I'd been drinking for years. The whole-house system they installed uses a stainless steel tank, which the other company I called didn't even offer. Everything has been running clean for four months now.
I was hauling 40-pound salt bags every few weeks and it was getting old fast. They explained the salt-free system and how it handles the hardness without adding sodium to the water. No bags, no brine tank, no maintenance headaches, and the scale on my fixtures has not come back.
My daughter has eczema and her skin would flare up badly every winter. A friend mentioned soft water might help, so we had Filter Pros come out. They tested our water first and walked us through exactly what we were dealing with. A few weeks after the softener was in, her flare-ups got noticeably better and her dermatologist was glad to hear we made the change.
